Lens is a camp designed for aspiring teen filmmakers [9th-12th graders] who want hands-on experience in writing, directing, filming, and editing a short film in just five days. No prior experience is necessary!
Students will learn the entire short film making process, including scriptwriting, cinematography, directing, editing —all while creating a short film as a team.
Each day will include a mix of on set filmmaking, production time, and editing sessions, with breaks for meals. During the week there will be talks and classroom time with film professionals. A detailed schedule will be provided before camp begins.
All necessary filmmaking equipment, including cameras, lighting, audio gear, and editing software, will be provided. However, students may bring their own gear if they prefer.
Students will collaborate in small groups, taking on different roles such as director, cinematographer, editor, and more to create a fully produced short film by the end of the camp.
Students will use Adobe Premiere Pro and other Adobe Creative Suite tools to edit their films.
The process is simple! Just apply online and then a member of our team will reach out and let you know if you move forward. You will have to do a 10min video meeting with our team, and potentially submit a teacher reference.
The program fee for Lens is $1,995. This covers your housing for the week in UNC dorms, all meals, 24/7 staffing, insurance, video and editing equipment, camp activities, and more. Airport pickup is an extra fee.
Lens is currently offering four week-long sessions in July 2025.
We are accepting applications now. We do not have a deadline, but when the program fills up we will close applications. Rolling admissions.
We do offer financial aid, typically 10 or 20% for students who qualify. To request financial aid, just complete our online application and select "Yes I need financial aid" in that section of the application.
Yes! On the last day, we’ll host a film screening at a local cinema where students can showcase their work to friends and family members.
