Overview

This camp is designed for aspiring young filmmakers to learn the art of storytelling, cinematography, and film editing. Hosted at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, this immersive experience provides students with access to industry-standard equipment, expert mentorship, and a collaborative environment. Over the course of less than a week, students will create their own short films from concept to final cut, with a premiere screening at a local movie theater.

Camp topics

  • Day 1: Introduction to Filmmaking, Story Development & Scriptwriting
  • Day 2: Pre-Production, Scriptwriting, and Shot Planning
  • Day 3: Production – On-Location Filming
  • Day 4: Production and Editing – Editing in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Day 5: Finalizing the Film, Preparing for the Premiere
  • Day 6: Film Premiere at Varsity Theatre on Franklin Street.

  • Scriptwriting fundamentals (Characters, plot)
  • Camera operation and composition
  • Lighting techniques
  • Sound recording

  • Film Editing and Color Correction

What is included:

Film Set Experience: Students will gain hands-on experience with professional DSLR cameras and additionally learn Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro for editing.

On-Campus Living & Dining: Students will stay on campus in UNC dorms, providing a full immersive college-like experience.

Professional Mentorship: Guided by experienced filmmakers and educators, students will receive expert instruction and guidance throughout the camp.

24/7 Staffing:

  • Experienced film industry professionals as instructors
  • Camp counselors for student supervision
  • Administrative staff for registration and logistics

Fun-Filled Camp Activities: The camp will include fun eveningactivities throughout the week - for example: baseball games, bowling, dinners out, and more!
